The organization focuses on collaboration with other organizations, and relies on volunteer efforts and community involvement to provide educational, cultural, and social assistance services to Vietnamese/Vietnamese Americans.

Tu-Ai's EIN (Employer Identification Number) is 37-1662123. Tu-Ai was registered as a nonprofit corporation through the Secretary of the State of California on October 20, 2011. Tu-Ai was formed by members of the Vietnamese-American Scholastic Achievement Awards (VSAA) Committee. These members consisted of parents, educators, counselors, students, and members of the community. The VSAA Committee was established in 1988 to organize the VSAA Ceremony, and has been a continuing effort spearheaded by different community organizations at various times. The VSAA Ceremony is a celebration in which the community honors and recognizes the academic achievement of first through twelfth grade Vietnamese-American students with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 and higher for an entire academic year. As the support for the Awards Ceremony and the number of award recipicients continued to grow, Tu-Ai Connect-to-Serve, Inc. was formed with the mission of sustaining the Awards Ceremony and expanding the scope of efforts in the areas of education, culture, and social services.

Tu-Ai strives to empower Vietnamese-American youths to become future leaders through education, leadership, community involvement, and civic engagement by collaborating with other community based organizations.
